Melbourne Victory’s unbeaten AFC Champions League Two start is over after a two-nil defeat away to Persib Bandung. Balsa Sekulic scored in the forty-seventh and sixty-seventh minutes after a goalless first half. Jack Warshawsky started in goal, and Santos hit the crossbar while Victory were one goal down. Persib held on for a third straight group win.
The defeat leaves Victory second in Group E on four points. FC Seoul beat The Cong-Viettel five-nil in Hanoi and moved to three points, only one behind Victory. Persib lead on nine. Victory host Persib at AAMI Park Wednesday at quarter to seven, with the qualification race now much tighter.
The turnaround is short. Victory are back at AAMI Park on Sunday against Central Coast Mariners at three o’clock. The Mariners arrive after a two-nil defeat in Wellington. Sunday is Victory’s next chance to secure a first league win after a loss and a draw in the opening two rounds.
